Garuda Indonesia Case Study: From Used Flight seat Cover into Upcycled Business Class Amenity Kits

Garuda Indonesia, the national flag carrier of Indonesia, has long been recognized for its commitment to providing a world-class travel experience. However, the airline's pursuit of excellence extends beyond passenger comfort and service to encompass a deep respect for the environment and a dedication to sustainable practices. Together, we partnered with Botanical Essentials to transform used seat covers into exquisite amenity kits.

This innovative initiative not only reduces waste and promotes a circular economy but also serves as a testament to Garuda Indonesia's commitment to social responsibility. Liberty Society had the chance, with Botanical Essentials, to partner to underscore the airline's belief that environmental stewardship and social progress are intertwined and essential for a sustainable future.

The Upcycling Process: A Journey of Transformation and Renewal

Instead of discarding these used materials, each seat cover is carefully evaluated, and only those in impeccable condition are selected for upcycling. This meticulous selection process ensures that the final product meets the highest standards of quality and durability.

Once selected, the seat covers undergo a comprehensive cleaning and sanitization process using environmentally friendly methods. Then at our production house, skilled artisans breathe new life into them, transforming them into elegant and functional amenity kits.

Empowering Local Communities: Weaving a Tapestry of Social Impact

At the heart of this upcycling initiative lies a profound commitment to social responsibility. With LIberty Society, we provide training and employment opportunities to local artisans, BotanicalEssentials empowers them to participate in the production of the amenity kits, fostering economic self-sufficiency and community development.

We love this partnership. This partnership serves as a shining example of how businesses can create shared value by integrating social and environmental considerations into their core business strategies.

A Special Amenity Kit: The Impact

To commemorate Indonesia's 79th Independence Day, Garuda Indonesia is proud to offer these exceptional upcycled amenity kits to its Business Class passengers on select flights departing on August 16th and 17th, 2024.

These exclusive amenity kits feature a distinctive pouch meticulously crafted from the repurposed seat covers, serving as a tangible reminder of the airline's dedication to environmental responsibility. A total of 1250 amenity kits have been created from Garuda Indonesia's used seat covers, utilizing 117 kg of seat cover material. Each kit requires approximately 93.6 grams of fabric. In addition to the elegant pouch, the kits include a selection of premium Botanical Essentials products, carefully formulated with natural, locally sourced ingredients to enhance the passenger's well-being during their journey.

Conclusion: Taking Flight Towards a Brighter Future

This initiative serves as a beacon of hope, illuminating the path towards a brighter future where businesses prioritize both profit and purpose. By working together, businesses can create a world where economic growth and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. Garuda Indonesia's upcycled amenity kits are not just a symbol of the airline's commitment to sustainability; they are a testament to the power of innovation, collaboration, and responsible business practices to create a positive impact on the world. They are a symbol of hope, reminding us that even small actions can make a big difference in creating a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
