Crafted With Purpose - Langham x Liberty Society

Every day, coffee ground waste is produced and often ends up in landfills, contributing to gas emissions. Seeing this, many F&B companies and hotels are expected to take more responsibility in reducing this waste. With the launch of Artesian Bar at The Langham Jakarta on 21 May, and a menu featuring coffee beans sourced from local Indonesian farmers, they have partnered with Liberty Society to recycle coffee waste into useful products.

A Journey That Starts at the Bar and Transformed in Bali

The narrative of a coffee bean doesn't conclude with the final sip. Instead of being discarded once their flavor is spent, the used grounds from the bar begin a purposeful second chapter.

As a B-Corp social enterprise, Liberty Society transports these grounds to Bali, where skilled artisans dry, mill, and mold the waste into specialized mixtures. Each resulting coaster is a unique piece that retains the subtle, earthy essence of the original coffee.

Once crafted and packaged, these trays and coasters return to Jakarta, finding their place back at the Artesian Bar. Here, they serve the next generation of patrons, effectively closing the loop in a literal cycle of sustainability.

More Than an Amenity

Sustainability is built into the bar’s DNA, transforming potential landfill waste into coasters and trays that serve as tangible expressions of a zero-waste origin story.

Empowering Women, One Coaster at a Time

A 10% portion of every production goes to Rumah Rangkai Karsa, Liberty Society’s vocational house, ensuring that every drink served contributes directly to the livelihoods of women across the archipelago.

Where Community, Craft, and Coffee Meet

Behind every product is a maker, a farmer, and a choice to waste nothing, reflecting a menu at The Langham Artesian Bar that represents something truly meaningful.
